July

July in Wilmington, North Carolina is pure coastal magic. The sun hangs high over sparkling beaches, where surfers catch early morning waves and families set up umbrellas for long, lazy days by the water. The historic downtown hums with life—colorful boutiques, open-air patios serving up fresh seafood, and live music drifting from hidden courtyards. Afternoons bring a thick, warm hush, perfect for wandering the shaded oak-lined streets or ducking into an art gallery. As the sun sets, the Riverwalk comes alive with golden light and the scent of jasmine, inviting you to slow down, sip something cold, and savor the easygoing spirit of summer on the Carolina coast.

Why Wilmington?
We chose Wilmington, NC because it offered the perfect mix of relaxation and summer charm. After the hustle and bustle of NYC, we were craving something more laid-back, and Wilmington’s slower pace and coastal vibe felt just right. It’s a great spot for the Fourth of July, plus Halle has family nearby in North Carolina, which made it even more special. We originally considered the Outer Banks, but wanted to avoid the heavy tourist crowds—Wilmington gave us that cute beach town feel without the chaos. With its charming downtown, easy access to multiple beaches, a convenient airport, and more affordable cost of living, it checked all the boxes for an ideal summer month.

Where Are We Staying?
We’re staying in Wilmington, North Carolina, and it’s the perfect mix of history and coastal charm. The downtown area is full of character, with cobblestone streets, colorful storefronts, and a beautiful Riverwalk that stretches along the Cape Fear River. There’s always something happening—live music, local markets, and some amazing spots to eat, especially if you love seafood. Just a short drive away, Wrightsville Beach offers the ideal escape for beach days, surfing, or just watching the waves roll in. Wilmington has such a relaxed, welcoming vibe—it’s been the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the coast.
Wilmington is a total dream, especially after coming from a tiny NYC apartment. It’s a spacious three-bedroom home with way more room than we’re used to—finally space to stretch out! The extra bedrooms mean friends and family can come visit, which is perfect since we’ll be here over the Fourth of July. The place has a cozy, beachy vibe, a full kitchen, and even a little outdoor space to enjoy those warm summer evenings. It really feels like a home base, not just a place to crash.
