March

Living in Shelter Cove, California in March feels like discovering a secret the rest of the world forgot about. Tucked along the rugged Lost Coast, this tiny seaside village is all dramatic cliffs, crashing waves, and winding roads that seem to lead to nowhere — in the best way. The days are cool and misty, perfect for slow mornings with coffee overlooking the ocean and afternoons spent wandering black sand beaches with barely another soul in sight. March brings a wild, untamed beauty here — the kind where you trade crowded streets for endless horizon lines and the soundtrack is nothing but the wind and the surf. It’s the kind of place where you lose track of time completely, and honestly, you don’t mind at all.

Why Shelter Cove?
We chose Shelter Cove, California for March because we couldn’t imagine doing a year of travel without a California stop — and Shelter Cove felt like the perfect hidden gem. It fit naturally into our route, giving us a much-needed break from bigger cities while still surrounding us with beautiful nature and small coastal charm. Plus, we found an Airbnb that was so cool it basically sealed the deal. Between the dramatic coastline, the tiny-town vibe, and the sense that we were stumbling onto something few people ever experience, Shelter Cove felt too special to pass up.

Where Are We Staying?
Shelter Cove, California is a tiny, remote village tucked along the rugged Lost Coast, where the mountains meet the Pacific Ocean in dramatic cliffs and wild black sand beaches. With fewer than a thousand residents, it feels almost secret — a place where nature completely takes the lead. The town is known for its stunning sunsets, quiet marina, epic whale watching, and laid-back vibe. It's the kind of place where you come to truly slow down, breathe salty air, and get wonderfully lost in the beauty of the edge of the world.
This bright, oceanfront condo in Shelter Cove, affectionately referred to as "Mango Tango" by the town’s website (which is honestly adorable), offers the perfect cozy retreat by the sea. Perched right on the cliffs, it features stunning panoramic views of the Pacific, a private hot tub for soaking under the stars, and playful tropical colors that match the laid-back vibe of the Lost Coast. With a full kitchen, comfortable living space, and direct access to the beach, Mango Tango feels like a hidden gem — the kind of place where you can watch whales from your window and fall asleep to the sound of crashing waves.
